Armstrong vinyl flooring can be laid over many different kinds of surfaces. A popular application for rental properties is laying Armstrong vinyl flooring over an existing vinyl floor.

Whenever applying an Armstrong vinyl flooring over existing resilient flooring the old flooring must be thoroughly cleaned. The Armstrong Corporation produces floor cleaners that work well with their adhesive products.

Laying Instructions

When laying Armstrong vinyl flooring over an existing vinyl floor you must make sure that the flooring it is a non-cushioned backed vinyl and that it is firmly bonded to the sub-floor.

You want to check for gapped seams, tears or cut and repair these areas prior to laying down your new vinyl flooring. Using a utility knife you will need to cut away any loose vinyl.

After cutting away any loose vinyl you need to use an extra strength cleaner to remove wax build up and dirt. Once the existing floor has been thoroughly cleaned you are ready to level the floor using an embossing leveler.

This leveling product, also manufactured by Armstrong, levels the floor while at the same time filling in any holes and gaps. After the leveler has thoroughly dried, you will need to lightly sand any rough areas on the floor surface.

You are now ready to apply the appropriate adhesive and your new Armstrong vinyl flooring. Be sure to follow the instruction labels of the adhesive.

Armstrong Vinyl flooring can also be applied to both plywood and concrete. The surface preparation for plywood and concrete are the same.

Prior to installing your new Armstrong vinyl flooring you will need to make sure all holes and cracks are filled using the appropriate patching for textured surfaces.

Once all the surface imperfections have been filled and sanded you need to apply a latex primer as a bonding agent for the floor adhesive. After the primer has properly dried you are ready to apply your adhesive and new flooring.

As indicated earlier you find Armstrong vinyl flooring to be a versatile and flexible flooring product that can easily be used for practically every flooring application.
